Hello Threadcakes!
it's my 2nd year here AND i'm so excited!
so many amazing designs and it was really hard for me to choose which one to recreate.. I've had a few designs I wanted to make but I finally decided to do this one because I thought it was challenging.
So, the whole thing is a cake - gingerbread cake with cinnamon buttercream filling and chocolate cake with mint buttercream filling (very delish!) - coated with water ganache. It was my first time doing the water ganache and it was great!
I then covered it with homemade modeling chocolate. I added a bit of white color to the modeling chocolate to achieve the white color look of the design. I didn't use any template for this one, which I regretted as soon as I was covering it with chocolate.. the face was too rounded as opposed with the original design so I had to make a few alterations to make the right proportions.
After covering, I paint it with rose spirit and gel colors. The butterfly is made of rice paper painted with gel color as well. It was also my first time making butterfly using rice paper. the clock is modeling chocolate attached to the hair. I also used gel colors to highlight the face.
As soon as I cut the cake, I realized that I missed painting the drip on the butterfly (too bad). My kids were very excited to eat the cake!
all in all, this was a very fun (and really challenging) cake for me.
So many firsts on this one and I learned a lot along the way..
Thanks Threadcakes! and looking forward to next year.
