I found out about this contest not too long ago and frantically searched for a design that I really liked. LOVE this design and I'll probably order one when there's more available to buy!
I decided to try out a new yellow cake recipe found on another blog. I also decided to use white chocolate mousse with diced fresh strawberries for the filling in my 3 layer cake.
I baked the 3 layers one night then wrapped them in plastic wrap as the recipe called for. Then I got to decorating. It took a lot longer than I thought - about 5 hours (and that wasn't even counting baking time!)
The cake turned out higher than I thought but luckily I had enough fondant to cover it. It was fun sculpting the little fondant piggies! I loved making their little tails by winding them around toothpicks. Their tails, ears and legs were made out of gum paste that I coloured pink. I painted their masks on using black food colouring gel diluted with a tiny bit of vodka. I made the knives using gum paste for the blades and fondant coloured black for the handles. I used silver luster dust mixed with vodka to put a shiny sparkle on the coins and the blades.
After the sculpting, it was just a matter of placing the pigs on the cake. Luckily my sister-in-law likes pigs so we used it for her birthday cake! Perfect timing! :)
