Ninjas vs Luchadores cake by Georgette Gamel

Description

The sky was bright and the breeze calm, when a rogue band of ninjas silently stole upon a group of Mexican luchadores diligently honing their skills in the pastoral countryside. The rest is legend, as you all will know. Retelling this epic tale required a superior bard, a poet whose skills were legendary indeed. To undertake this task, the artist used 100% edible materials and slaved for over 30 hours(!), tirelessly labouring over each individual to create this opus. The cake is vanilla pound cake, (the recipe can be found in the blog- sweetdiversion.blog.com) covered with homemade vanilla buttercream. The characters were made of fondant and supported by many, MANY pretzels. The spike effects were achieved by a discerning implementation of uncooked rice. The artist was assisted in the more strenuous aspects of the project (ie- fondant-rolling, color-mixing) by a muscle-bound, flowing haired Adonis (for only one of god-like strength could handle such a Herculean task!). The artist chose this particular entry as a challenge (or torture?) to herself, as it required an intensive amount of fondant sculpting which pushed her non-professional experience to the very brink of human endurance and perseverance. Despite these obstacles, she enjoyed the journey and loves the view from the top. She hopes that you will do the same...
