Memento Mori cake by mila prados hernado

Description

Since the beginning of this year I was waiting for Threadcakes.

Every day, another friend, who participated in the contest, and I were betting when the contest would start.

And oh, Chris sent us the email.

I felt very nervous.

And what design may I choose ?

Every time I looked at the site, designs came out completely different.

If I chose a nice design, I had no color, if the design had color I did not like it ....

To be or not to be??

Finally I remove the small spine from last year, it was a design I could not do. This, the crow. It seemed to me appropriate for Halloween but not for the summer. But I love it.

So I went back to the Raven.

I started with the flowers paste. I don't like too much flowers, but this year I have a strange fever, I'm doing a lot of unusual flowers.

The roses seemed to me more complicated. So I started to make petals, leaves and others.
And let them dry.

Then I began to make the crow.

I make the body with RKT and let it dry for a few days, as well as the stones and parts of the base where the cake will stand.

They delayed a lot drying.

I got a magnificent purple to black color for the feather plumage and I model the feathers one by one.

Finally I mount the wings on a light board and when I was finishing I had just run out of colored fondant .... This is why the bird's tail is so small ... and it was very heavy and I could see the chocolate I used to stick them. Then, a time in the fridge. In Madrid, It's hot as hell so the bird would struggle to survive outside the fridge.

The cake was the next, we're not in a common order. Vanilla madeira sponge cake flavored with ... vodka and Coke (this is not usual) and a chocolate and Coke ganache.

To curve the cake. I took the cake remains to make cake dough balls and I used them to give volume to the cake.

After that, just to cover the cake with fondant and paint brush but imitating airbrush painting and the assembly ...
Ugh The flowers felt, but I did not want to use more non-edible parts ....

I hope you have fun with this Halloween design for the summer heat. I tried putting my personality and style in the cake. I already know the trend from the past years was to imitate the drawing pixel by pixel ... I prefer to do a little more free, just my style ... Enjoy it.

Happy contest .
