Thumbper cake by Robin Reininger

Description

This cake was made by altering a box cake mix. I made the white cake into an almond flavored cake that had additional flour and sugar to help make the cake denser and more sturdy. The cake has a strawberry jelly filling in the middle and is frosted with vanilla buttercream, it is finished with rolled fondant and piped buttercream. I baked the cakes on a Sunday morning and let them cool until Monday. Monday morning I frosted the cake and put the fondant on. I waited until later in the afternoon to pipe my bunny, this allowed for the fondant to set and dry. My friend got home from vacation today, the fourth, and I wanted to have the cake done as part of a welcome home gift. She is the one I am sharing the cake with in the pictures. It was a delicious treat that was awesome to devour. We had to start with the ears, kind of like eating the heads off of animal crackers first.
