Let s Plant cake by Alex Turkington

Description

This is the first attempt at a 3D cake, and only the third one that we've ever iced! We're practicising for a wedding cake for October and saw the competition as an ideal meeting of love of cake / love of threadless designs.

It was done over two days. Day 1 baking the 2x9 inch square cakes, and day two doing everything else!

The cake is madeira, and held up surprisingly well to being carved up, keeping the buildings standing up was a much more entertaining challenge as we'd decided not to use dowelling rods in them, or any means of support apart from gravity!

The dinosaur (You know I've presumed all along he's a dinosaur - maybe he's a dragon?) was made from, my first attempt at mixing, gum paste - so the consistency wasn't quite what I expected but I was pleased with how the Dragon (green scaled lizard of non-specific origin?) turned out! He looks happy :-)

We're ever so fond of how the trees came out, so will be thinking of any opportunity to make them again and the Green scaled lizard of non-specific origin (Designosaur?) seemed quite pleased to hold onto them for us.

The cake is covered with lemon curd butter cream and it's a good rich cake too, am just after rounding up lots of other people to help eat it!

Really enjoyed baking the cake - and thankyou for such a fun competetion.
