Nosferatu cake by Ginny Velazquez

Description

10pm Saturday: Discover Threadcakes competition via cakewrecks.com
2pm Sunday: Go shopping for cake materials!
4pm Sunday: Start baking cake and attempting to make fondant for the first time EVER!

Anyway, I've never attempted to seriously decorate a cake before and this looked like an awesomely fun way to spend an afternoon. I went through the ENTIRE list of eligible pictures like 4 times and finally decided to try "Nosferatu" first, since it already kind of resembled a cake.

I used chocolate box mix in loaf pans for the cake layers and crumb-coated them with premade frosting, but made my own marshmallow fondant using a recipe found online.
Once the cakes cooled, I crumb-coated them and covered them in fondant the best that I could figure out how.
I thought I was going to be genius and make the characters by drawing them in frosting on wax paper and then peeling them off and sticking them on the cake, but that didn't work. When I attempted to hand draw them, I realized the kitchen was too hot so the frosting started dripping down the sides of the cake.

Needless to say, this cake is far from the awesome thing I envisioned, but rest assured I will be attempting more entries!
