Description
This is my first year entering a thread cake contest, I heard about it through "Bakerella" and I thought I should give it a try I don't have much cake decorating experience yet but I hope to keep working on cakes and gain more experience soon! I have a love for all things food! The cake took me a total of about fourteen hours mainly because I am new to this. I split the work into days-
The first day - I started by baking my cakes, I used a box mix yes... I know that to many bakers this is a huge no-no but I figured it would save me some time. Then I made homemade marshmallow fondant, and Rice Krispy treats, when I finished those it was time to carve the cakes. Even though I had picked an easy design to carve I was nervous because this was my first time. When I was done carving the cake I put homemade chocolate butter cream on the sides and a chocolate ganache over the top. And so day one came to a stop.
The second day - I started out by making modeling chocolate and then put that in the fridge to chill. Then I carved my Rice Krispy treats into my characters. After that I colored and rolled out my fondant and got ready to cover the characters. Once that was done I made arms and legs for the characters out of the modeling chocolate put the faces on my characters and then put the whole cake together! Once I was done I sat down on the couch and put my feet up for a couple of hours until my friends came over and we enjoyed the cake! I am so happy I found this contest and I can't wait to try it again next year!
