A Piece of Cake

Description
Ashley made a pound cake. Maggie brought the icing and a bag of 1980s cake decorating tools. Deliciousness ensued.
Start to finish, this cake took an afternoon. During the downtime (cake cooling, etc.) we watched old Ace of Cakes episodes to get inspired. They make it look easy! Our cherry and stem are magically made from Twizzlers (heat + pressure = cooking). The cake was baked in loaf pans, split, and reassembled to look like a genuine slice. The carving and decorating was a team effort. The photography is courtesy of Ashley's husband, Drew. He also helped taste our creation and gave his seal of approval. The co-workers and family members who got a bite also gave it two thumbs up.
