Playin' In The Sprinkler cake by Stephanie Johnson

Description

Stephanie is a fan of Cake Wrecks and lives in Texas. She was in Ohio visiting her Mom. Stephanie and Julie met in 6th grade and have been friends ever since. Stephanie was showing Julia the Cake Wrecks blog because both like to decorate cakes. Julia is now also a fan of Cake Wrecks. They then decided it would be fun to make a cake for The Threadcakes contest. So Stephanie and Julia looked through all of the t-shirt designs on Threadless and chose the "Playin in The Sprinkler" t-shirt to make into cake. They chose a round 2 layer chocolate cake because that is the best kind. After the cakes were baked and cooled they proceeded to make the homemade butter cream frosting to frost the cake. There are some pictures of the butter cream in the mixer and the cake being frosted. The cakes were baked in the morning and the making of the frosting started about 2ish. After the cake was frosted, it went into the fridge to set the butter cream and they started making the decorations. They made each of the characters (ice cream and donut), the sprinkler, and the hose out of fondant they had colored. Then the fondant to cover the cake was colored a dark blue to match the blue in the picture. They didn’t want the blue to get too dark so they left it slightly lighter than the blue used in the t-shirts. Then they rolled out the fondant and covered the cake with it. The decorations were then placed onto the top of the cake. After all of the decorations were placed on the cake they proceeded to hand lay sprinkles onto the fondant to get as close to the shirt design as possible. At this point Julia’s kitchen was full of powdered sugar, lol…you can see the glass table top in some of the pictures. The cake was completely decorated by 6is. Julia’s family (Dad, Mom, Brother, Sister, and friend) thought the cake looked awesome. The decorated cake then had to sit and wait while the family had dinner and watched some fireworks outside. After the fireworks, Julia and Stephanie cut into the cake to serve it to everyone. The cake tasted wonderful and was enjoyed by all. The remainder of the cake (which wasn’t very much) was split between Julia and Stephanie to finish later in the week. Stephanie and Julia then showed off their pictures to several people. When asked why Stephanie and Julia baked a cake, the response was “because we wanted to.” To which people were shocked that they would bake and decorate a cake just because they wanted to.
