Recessionopoly cake by Erin Toews

Description

Hi=)
I'm a baker by trade and love all things cake. Welcome to my first Threadcakes entry. I picked recessionopoly for it's hilarity and cartoony goodness.
I started out by making a buttermilk cake. It's kind of dense, so I figured it would carve well. I had some leftover buttercream in the fridge and I set to work. I made a bunch of marshmallow fondant, which proved quite tricky to work with in some ways, but in other ways came in handy. I used fondant mixed with a bit of gumpaste for smaller items like the shoe, dog and iron and let them dry for a day.
I used rice treats for Mr. Moneybags' head, even though, looking back, I probably could have made cake work. I know for next time. Then I supported his large noggin with a couple of coffee stir sticks. They are the only none-edible portion of the cake.
I was running out of buttercream for filling the cake, so I whipped up a white chocolate ganache and paired that with some raspberry jam for filling.
It took me a couple of days to complete the whole cake, but it was a lot of fun and it was quite yum. That cake recipe is back on my favorites list.
