Description
I started off with a gum paste crank gear and horn designed and molded on a funnel (day 1). I then created the gum paste needle/armature on lollipop sticks, with a circular base to help anchor/attach the horn (day 2). (Day 3) The base was comprised of alternating chocolate and vanilla cake layers (leveled) with a raspberry filling. The square structure was covered with black fondant. To accent the box design, fondant trim and white icing were applied to the victrola. A gum paste record was made, and painted with black icing, providing a graininess sound texture. The armature, and horn were also painted with black icing (since it is difficult to dye pure black material). Rice krispy treat was applied to the crank and covered with black fondant. The rose was made of red and red/black marbled fondant. An initial circular base was covered with red fondant, with a whole in the center for stem and rose formation. The rose was comprised of star/amoeba fondant layers; individual petals were cut and tooled for the final rose also. All the pieces were carefully assembled, photographed quickly (due to the horn weight/instability) and eaten. (Shared with my co-workers)
