Description
Hi everyone my name is Saahna, I'm 27 and I love to bake and decorate cakes. This is my second year entering the Threadcakes Competition. It took me some time to decide which design to do, but just as I did I checked the gallery and two people had made it already. I went with my second favorite, Happy Accident. I started of by going to the model building section at the craft store, to get the wood to build my base for the two trucks. When I got home I measured and cut out two 8x5 inch rectangles, then I cut four 1.25" pieces off of the dowel stick as well as four 1.75" pieces. I used loctite glue to glue them in place and put them aside to dry.
Before I started baking I had decided that I was going to make banana chocolate chip cake, but after creaming the butter and sugar together I changed my mind and decided I would make cookies and cream cake as well. So I made one 12x17 sheet and an 8x8 pan banana chocolate chip cake and one 12x17 sheet and an 8x8 pan cookies and cream cake. When the cakes were baking I made some vanilla buttercream, I also remembered that I had made some caramel a few days before and had some left over. While the cakes were cooling I covered the wood bases with melted white chocolate so the cake wouldn't be touching any wood. After the cakes cooled I started filling the cake, the banana chocolate chip was filled with layers of caramel and vanilla buttercream. The cookies and cream cake was filled with cookies and cream frosting. (So yummy!) After the cakes were layered I put them in the freezer for a little bit before carving them into the car shapes. I frosted both cakes with vanilla buttercream then covered them with fondant and started putting on the details. I used gumpaste for the clowns face and the pie and rice krispie treats for the tires. The "glues" I used were melted white chocolate and gum glue. I think overall the cake took 13hrs to complete. The details are what took the most time but once it was finish I was very happy with the final product.
