Lonely Traveller

This is my first year entering the Threadcakes Cake Contest. I heard about the contest last year from blogs such as CakeWrecks but didn’t enter. This year when some of my friends (who love Threadless, and know how much I love cake) suggested I enter, I knew it would be the perfect summer project! The moment I saw “The Lonely Traveler” I knew it was the cake for me, as I love taking “selfies” (which is not all that surprising since I am only 15). This contest seemed like a great time for me to try something I have always wanted to try, a 3D cake! I spent about a week figuring out what kind of internal structure the elephant would need. After deciding on a PVC based structure, I collected all my supplies and got to work. The cake took me about 3 full days of work. The elephant is a mix of cake, fondant, modeling chocolate, and Rice Krispie treats, along with the support structure. Although it was sad to cut into him, he tasted great and everyone enjoyed eating him! I hope you like it and I am already thinking about what I can do next year! =)
