Doing just one Threadcake wasn't enough... I wanted to do another!
This design caught me eye as I have always loved horses but never dug the airy fairy girly unicorns.. this bad boy is definitely not that!
Initially I was going with a 2D version but then started visualising it in 3D and as I like to bite off more than I can chew I thought I would have a crack at it. After considering a whole support system which was anything but edible I decided to try to create more of an illusion instead. It is all edible except for the 2 toothpicks to hold his head in place.
This is one boozy unicorn. There's Marsala and Frangelico in the cakes and with the scraps I made a Rum ball mixture to form his exaggerated curves. We were heading for a cake wreck moment when, after I left him to "dry out", he toppled over but it was nothing gananche glue couldn't fix.
I used pre coloured red fondant and hand painted the details with a toothpick. The tail gave me the most headaches, it's not how I wanted it to look but in the end I lost patience and left it how it was. I would say he took about 20hrs to complete.
My daughter was due back from holidays so I kept him in one piece for her to do the honours of chopping this bad boy up and boy was he yummy!!
