Toast

After seeing Bakerella's post on her blog about this contest, I just couldn't resist! As a recent culinary school graduate, I have a passion for creating wedding and special event cakes. After browsing the gallery of t-shirts, I decided to re-create the "Toast" design. I used a sheet cake as the base of the cake and built the two "Mr. and Mrs." pieces of toast on top. Each piece of toast has its own personality. The type of cake I baked was a carrot cake, and my boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed eating the scraps ;). I covered the cake with a vanilla butter cream and then decorated it with fondant. The base sheet cake was covered in a cinnamon sugar mixture to represent the sand on the beach that the figures lay on. The texture of the cake was enhanced by using a dry brush effect to accentuate the detail of the tan lines seen on the T-Shirt design. The sunglasses, limbs, and other small design elements were also created out of fondant. The entire process took about 10 hours over the course of a weekend.
