Eclipse Venn Diagram

This was our first ever threadcake entry. Starting right out of the gate and because of time restraints we decided to try something fairly easy. We fell in love with this design for its simplicity and colors. To be honest, there wasn't much planning involved because we felt the design was fairly straight forward. This cake took us an afternoon to bake and decorate.

We started out by baking four 9 inch round cakes. Two chocolate and two zucchini. One, because we love those flavors and two, because we loved the juxtapostion between the light and dark, like the sun and the moon. We layered the four cakes alternatively and wtih buttercream. Then we cut a crescent from one stacked cake so that when placed together the cakes simulated that overlapping effect. We had made and colored our fondant the night before and after rolling and covering the cake we tried a spackle effect with cheese cloth and food coloring to recreate the craters of the moon and the swirl of color in the sun. We think it turned out well. We finished the cake by decorating it with buttercream.

Being busy moms, we had originally hoped to make more entries. Maybe next year!!
