Tropicalia

Hey! My name is Desiree Tuttle and baking is..my life:) If I am not working at one of my two jobs as a pastry cook at Waterbar or Farallon in San Francisco, I am baking at home with my niece or feeding/nurturing a baby sourdough starter. Once I heard about Threadcakes, I got PUMPED. I was hesitant that I wasn't going to have enough time to complete a cake for the contest, but with the support and encouragement of friends and family, I came to the conclusion that decorating a cake was wayyy more interesting than sleep. Sooo, I took my ONE day off and, despite falling asleep with a ball of gumpaste in my hand (which was a blast to find as a ball of goo in the morning) banged out a tiger head cake! I made a chocolate sponge cake, chocolate cream filling, white chocolate buttercream and marshmallow fondant. The flowers, teeth, and butterflies are made out of gumpaste. And it was deliiicious:) Hope you enjoy and thank you for the opportunity to share my passion with you and others that understand what baking is all about!!!
