I Heart Color cake by Matthew Armfield

Description

This is one of my favorite threadless t-shirts, so I immediately thought of turning this into a cake. It seemed relatively simple. I also wanted to try making fondant for the first time also, and I'm pleased with a first time try. Although I'm still getting the blue/black food coloring out of my hands and tongue.

2 days in advance I made the fondant frosting using a recipe I found online. It seemed to have worked well, although the coloring process was a lot harder than I thought it should be. Regardless, the next day I baked the cake (vanilla sponge cake recipe from Williams Sonoma) and made the raspberry filling. Finally, the day after that, I made the buttercream, and assembled the cake. As I have never used fondant before, I actually found the hardest part to be covering the cake with the dark navy blue frosting.

Each circle was cut out from the four different colors (just like the t shirt, there are two shades of green... although my shades are probably too close in color) and carefully arranged on the cake. That part took about 3-4 hours total.

I was supposed to bring it to a friend's that night for a TV watching party, but by the time I was finished, my friends had all left. So I brought it to my other friend's party and we all enjoyed it there. Thankfully, none of us are colorblind. Success!
