I Hate Japanese Food cake by Claire Murphy

Description

So after much threadcaking, I found myself constantly with an excess of cake off-cuts and buttercream, so a cakepop-only entry made sense. The annoying thing is that if you want cakepops to taste good, you really can't use much buttercream. If you've got a cakepop texture that you can work with, they're not going to taste too good. So I made the decision that this wasn't one of the threadcakes that I'd be feeding to people. This let me add enough buttercream to the mix to make the texture easier to work with and cover in fondant. Buttercream-heavy cakepops covered in fondant are never going to taste good, so I just had to go with it.

I used assorted cutters to get the shapes done, then started covering them. I picked at the fondant on the ones at the front to give it a rice-like appearance, then started adding all the extra details. I miscalculated somewhat and realised I had no cakepop mix left for the soy sauce bowl, so that was chocolate cheesecakepop (it's a thing) covered in white chocolate. The slug was done in gumpaste, and I did the slime trail with sugar glue

Knowing it wouldn't taste good, as soon as the picture was taking, the fondant all got ripped off, the cakepops went back in the mixer to be combined with extra crumbs so that I could make proper pops instead
