After scrolling down the countless images many of which I would love to make a cake out of.I was compelled to use this one of the cat.It certainly fired up my imagination on how to make it with only edible supports .A few days before I made the cake,I started head using cereal
treats .I had my granddaughter to assist me in the making of the treats.About two days later I made the ears.I used ready made fondant.I wanted to make the ears harder than fondant ,so I put some white fondant in a bag sprinkled some lemon juice.(I use lemon juice in royal icing to make it hard,so I thought it would make fondant harder.) some gel food colouring and some icing sugar (powdered sugar),Squeezed the bag to mix it all together .Used only a little of the colouring at a time. Finished off by hand.Shaped the ears and attached them to the head. The fondant stuck to the cereal treats by it,s self.I placed it on a polythene bag and supported the ears with kitchen paper which in turn was on a cardboard container. I roughly drew an outline of the cat to get an idea of the size of the cake.I left the ears to harden . They were hard by the next day.I had some modeling chocolate I made some time back.I decided to use this to help support the head along with the front legs. I carved these to shape. The head I made a hole in the neck to take the chocolate support. Then impaled onto the chocolate spike. the atmosphere in the kitchen was humid so the cereal treats were still soft so I covered the neck and spike with melted chocolate to make it stable.I did the same with the legs. I put them in the fridge until hard. I took them out and left them over night. The next day I started modeling the face with blue and black fondant. It was a few days before I could bake the cake. The cake is a chocolate mud cake.I then made a chocolate ganache .The next day I started shaping the cake. I spread blueberry and pomegranate jam, then the ganache . I used melted chocolate to stick a bar of chocolate and the legs to the cake. I then stuck on the head. Then I crumb coated the cake with ganache. The next day,I made cake clay using the cake cuttings and chocolate ganache and shaped the upper part of the body I then applied freshly made ganache with a pastry brush. I made the tail with modelling chocolate .As I had other cakes to to make for the family,I had to leave the cat for a couple of days.I made some more modelling chocolate and coloured it with gel food colouring. I then applied blue fondant to the cake. I started making the plasters by rolling out the modeling chocolate, cutting it into strips.I made a cutter from a cream carton to shape the ends of the plasters. The plasters stuck to the ganache without any problem.half the plasters were on when it was getting late.So I left it to the next day .I put the rest of the plasters on then melted dark chocolate, added black food colour and spread over the base.TA DA .Finished.It,s hard to say how long it took as I had to stop start, but I would say it was a good 30 hrs work. That cat has my soul ,I have made the cake so now I will have to by the tee shirt.Threadcakes has made me think out side the box.I loved making it.Roll on next year.PS It tasted Great.People were comming back for more.
