Face cake by Ami Schumacher

Description

This cake doubled as my brother's birthday cake because he's really indecisive and couldn't make up his mind about what he wanted. I was on the site and loved the tee-shirt so that's what he got. He's a geek so I thought he would like the simple lines and cartoon/anime feel. I also wrote "Happy Birthday, Eric" in hexadecimal on the top. When we added the candles, they looked like Mickey Mouse ears! The cake was made (from scratch) out of three different types of cake: red velvet, devil's food, and plain ole white because Eric couldn't decide what type he wanted. It took me two days to make this cake. One was spent baking and the other was spent decorating. This cake is completely fondant free. I did use rolled buttercream for the first time and it was a total disaster! It tasted much better than fondant, but it's softer so every time I tried to put it on the cake, it would tear and huge chunks of it would fall off. What a mess! I finally got it on without too many rips like the seventh or eighth time. Eric loved it and it was mad yum.
