Flower Lover cake by Sophie Landry

Description

Long time watcher, first time contestant! I was super excited to for my first time submitting to Threadcakes. I’m still pumped as I’m writing this!

The journey started by looking through endless Threadless designs. I’m still not sure how I managed to narrow it down to one. When I set out to decide on my design, I tried to choose one that I could see myself wearing as well as eating. When I saw Flower Lover, I knew I had found my match.??I started by making as many gumpaste flowers as I thought necessary. I made an assortment of roses, daisies and extra little space filler.

I used two sheets of vanilla cake for my cake matched with my homemade buttercream to carve out the shape of my cake. Even though my design is a 2D cake, I have carved into the sheets to create more depth and interest.

With my form carved out, I covered it in homemade marshmallow fondant. With my canvas set up in front of me, I used watered down black icing color to paint on the lines of our Flower Lover.

From here I carefully place all of my flowers into the cake. I believe it was the red flower in her hair that caught my eye and made me chose this design, so I wanted to do it justice.

When all was said and done, I had finished with a cake that I couldn’t be more proud of. This has been a wonderful experience, and I can guarantee that you’ll see me back here next year!
