Lisa Frankenstein cake by Corrie Rasmussen

Description

I've wanted to enter the Threadcakes contest for the last 4 years, at least(!), and finally this year it fit right into my schedule. I chose the Lisa Frankenstein design, because it's completely awesome, had great colors and I thought it was perfect for the Halloween season. I started with a 1/4 sheet size pumpkin spice cake, iced it in buttercream layering a few colors and painting a couple of the bubbles. I then made the primary designs using thinly rolled marshmallow fondant, that I cut and layered and painted with food colors. I used my overhead projector to get the cuts and details right. I also made a huge mess, but I usually do! I added the borders because I always think they are a fun detail and make a cake look like a cake. This cake took about 10 hours total to complete.
My son, Sean, was in charge of gathering together some cake aficionados to enjoy the end result. He brought home from school about a dozen starving teenagers and they were very happy to help get this cake eaten! The cake was really great, the icing gave us all gray teeth, and we had a great time!
