Description
This is my first time entering Threadcakes and I must say I've really enjoyed the whole experience. I chose Hipster Zeus as I wanted a challenge and I thought he would be really fun to create.
I began by baking the madeira cakes which were a favourite with my family (tried and tested):)Once baked and cooled I began stacking. The cakes were filled with raspberry jam and home-made vanilla buttercream. Once stacked I began the carving of a basic head and shoulders.
Once I was happy with the overall shape of Zeus's head,I crumb coated him with a generous layer of the vanilla cream and let him chill out in the fridge for a while.
I decided to try making my own modelling chocolate to sculpt Zeus's face ( never used this before!!)I coloured the chocolate and used it to create his cheeks, nose and mouth. His hair and beard were made from a combination of sugar paste and modelling chocolate.
The glasses were the trickiest part to make. I decided to make frames out of wire and covered them in gum paste.
It was a great feeling to see the finished 'Hipster Zeus' and he was cut and enjoyed by my wonderful family and friends. All in all it was an awesome experience.
