Ramen ses Return cake by Jessica Allard

Description

After looking through all the pages of T shirts I decided to go with this one. It was just too cute plus I wanted to do a 3D cake. I sketched it out to come up with the dimensions and internal structure i would need to support the cake.
The board is a 1 x 2 ft board covered in fondant. I used a thin dowel rod as a guide for the "grout" in the tiled fondant. After the board was covered and dry, I constructed the internal supports then liberally brushed them with melted chocolate to seal them off for food safety.
My kids cake flavor of choice is vanilla, so I made a delicious vanilla buttermilk cake with a classic vanilla butter cream. The head is made from the Wilton 6 inch ball pan. The body was carved from a 2, 3, and 4 inch mini pan set and the bowl was carved from the Wilton wonder mold pan. Once the body and head were in place and carved, the arms and legs were created using home made modeling chocolate.
Hundreds of noodles were extruded and wrapped around his entire body. To finish him up, the noodles were petal dusted and steamed to give them a more realistic look.
The bowl is actually royal iced to a 3 1/2 inch wood base that was screwed in on an angle, and covered in fondant to look like it is tipping over.
This cake took 3 long days to make and the mummy stands at 14 inches tall. This is my first year submitting an entry to Threadcakes. I'm excited to have the opportunity to be a part of it! :)
