Description
I choose the design I wanted to do in September but decided to wait until Halloween to make him (or Philip as he became affectionately know).
I made a chocolate fudge cake and filled it with chocolate Italian meringue buttercream (can you ever have enough chocolate!). I made the cake 3 days before Halloween with the help of my eager assistant Maisy who advised me that everyone at the party better like the cake or there would be trouble!!
The next day I layered and buttercreamed the cake and put in the fridge to set, then added the arms and let set again. I then cut out the head and shaped it. Next I covered the body in black fondant. After I covered the head, contoured the face, added eyes, ears and shaded it in. My favourite part was adding the teeth - I made them with almonds, toasted to add the 'rotten to the core' look and pared them to achieve the sharp look. I made the sign from black flowerpaste and painted the words with white edible ink and added the frame with brown paste. Then I added the sign and hands - Voila - Philip.
We ate him with a slight tinge of sadness in the way you would eat a hand reared pig - tasty but tragic!!!
On a side note – we think he was framed!!!
