Description
Thank you for this opportunity! I was inspired by more than several amazing T-shirts and decided to use whichever one would be appropriate for my next occasion to make a cake. I am always intrigued by designs that look like one thing from a distance (the sunflower) and reveal something more as you get closer (the bees and honeycomb) as in the Sunflower by Jill Kisselman. On Rosh Hashana we eat apples and honey for a sweet new year. This design would be perfect to celebrate and be an opportunity to try many new things including recipes, products and techniques.
I used new recipes to make an apple and honey cake with vanilla honey filling, that were delicious. I covered it with buttercream and fondant. For the sunflower center, I colored fondant using a new all natural food color I got by supporting Tru Color through Kickstarter.com. Another new to me product that I experimented with is edible wafer paper. Another first was making stamps for the bees as hand-drawing each one would have been too time consuming! I enlisted my daughters help with the bees! We combined hand stamping bees directly on the fondant covered cake with stamped wafer paper cutout bees. Everything is edible. I had so much fun making this cake, learning, spending the afternoon with my daughters, and sharing with family for a special holiday!
