Aliens cake by Andrea de Gortari

Description

I picked the design because I like elaborate piping and aliens are rad. I also knew I could plan a Halloween dinner party as an excuse to do this cake. It was a win-win situation! To fill, ice, cover in fondant and to pipe the design it took a total of about 4 hours. All the piping was freehanded and done with royal icing. Had the design open on my phone and just piped away hoping my phone didn't die in the process. I'm pretty sure my phone still has some powdered sugar stuck in the crevices (don't tell my boyfriend, that drives him nuts! ). Everyone was wowed at the party and almost didn't want to cut it, but no one objected to a slice either. The cake was a quarter sheet chocolate and vanilla cake with Nutella buttercream and salted chocolate cookie crumble with a hint of cinnamon. Yes, it was amazing. Between the alien cake, the meatloaf mummy and the elaborately decorated haunted gingerbread house centerpiece, I just may be the Halloween dinner party queen!
