Description
My name is Brittani, but some call me Layde and I decorate cakes as Layde Cakes.
This is my first threadcakes entry and I couldn't be more excited because I was actually making a cake that my family and I could eat for once!
After going through the designs, the beauty of The Red Story stood out to me and I NEEDED to recreate that in cake. Wanting to push my limits more, I chose to create a 3D cake and sculpted it out of white cake and white chocolate ganache.
After carving the cake over a PVC structure using a template I drew, I iced it in white chocolate ganache and then began building up detail work in white candy clay (similar to modeling chocolate).
I textured fondant strips and hand curled them for each lock of hair. After placing them I hand painted them to give them depth and shading. I draped white fondant over the head for her hood and then hand painted it red before continuing with the hair peeking out from the hood.
I created the eyelashes from wafer paper to keep them thin and then hand painted the eyes as well. I also used painted wafer paper to create the flares at the base of the cake.
I am very proud of how this cake turned out, despite the fact that I kept changing the whole face through my decorating process (we are our worst critics right?) ;P
Thanks for looking!
