Description
It was so difficult to choose a design! There are so many great designs that would make amazing cakes! I ended up choosing My Sweet Tooth Never Listens to My Wisdom Tooth because I thought it was adorable and it had clean lines which I thought would make the sculpting a little easier for me. Plus it requires very little support! I only ended up use three bits of straws under the Wisdom tooth to hold him up and one skewer in the tooth brush.
I decided to bake two different kinds of cake for each tooth as it gave me an opportunity to play around with some new recipes. I baked four 6" chocolate cakes which i filled with a Oreo cream cheese buttercream for the sweet tooth. For the wisdom tooth I bakes 5 6" vanilla based cakes which I added chocolate chips to and filled it with a cookie dough butter cream.
I wanted to use as much cakes as possible and I think I did pretty good. I didn't have to shave off to much cakes to achieve the shapes which was great. For the smaller items like the desserts and toothbrush I made them all out of gum paste and only had to use one Skewer for the tooth brush as I had only made it one day before so I knew it wouldn't stay up by itself.
The next day I did a second coat of buttercream on the cakes and then covered them in fondant. The decorating definitely took the most amount of time. The hardest part for me was piping the black lines. I have never liked piping my hand is just not steady enough. I do wish I had piped the lines as I began attaching items. The black lines were the last thing I did so when I got to the end it was quite difficult to get into some spots.
I loved this experience! It took me too full days from start to finish but It allowed me to try new things and play around with techniques that i don't get to do that often, and I loved every second of it!
