Description
Impressed by the cakes last year I wanted to joint his competition te take my cake-skills to a next level. After making a shortlist I choose this design, because I immediately knew how to get started. The little cats that make a cat-face; I started making modeling chocolate and planned the colours. Al these cats took some time, therefore I used a big glass ball, where later on the cake would be.
At first I had planned to make the head only, but later on I decided to make a kind of bubble-head-cat, with the how to by Cake Frame. The body is made out of rice crips and the fur out of coloured modeling chocolate.
The cake-ball was baked out of to 18 cm cakes. Normally I use sponge cake, this was not my best cake. It was filled and covered with white chocolate ganache. The back of the head had also coloured ganache and in the front I used also modeling chocolate surrounding the mask of little cats.
As you can imagine it started to get to heavy. So when I put the head on the body I let the cat look at his tail to prevent the head from falling of. And at the last moment I turned the head. Because it really rolled of two times a coupple of details disappeared. Something I discovered only after cutting the cake of course. If I would do it again, I would use sponge cake. I thought this cake would be easier to create a ball, but it was to heavy.
Modeling the little cats and the furr on the body was my favoured part. I loved the entire proces. Thank you fort his opportunity!
