Description
This is my very first entry for Threadcakes and also my first 3D cake that needed inner supports. I've been baking for a year now (basically I've started baking after I discovered this contest last year and wanted to join the fun of competing ever since) and was eager to "go to the next level",so what's better than doing something you've never done before, right? :D
I chose this design since it was challenging for me and it stood out from millions of others. I was in love with it, later hated it terribly during the process when things went wrong and in the end I couldn't believe I made it and never wanted to cut it and eat it.
I baked chocolate pound cake and layered it with white chocolate buttercream. The eggs are made of lemon flavored marzipan covered in fondant, feathers, egg box, feet are all made of fondant. My dad was kind enough to make the cake support and I've used three bamboo sticks (one for the head and two for the tail just to make sure it doesn't slide off). The head and belly are made of rice krispie treats.
My best friend helped to color the feathers and work as a paparazzi. I've dusted some black petal dust to create shading and painted the crest with red petal dust mixed with vodka.
Since I had only two days to make it, there was not much sleep involved. All in all it took 18 hours to make, I baked the cake and made eggs on the first day and sculpted, decorated on the other: I've started at 3pm and finished it at 3am.
I'm going to plan ahead for next years entry so there would be less panic and enough time to complete the cake without losing mind and Hope :D
