Description
I had two alternatives for a cake to make, but in the end I decided on this design, largely because of the message but I also had a clear picture of how I wanted to make it, with a rainbow both inside and out.
I began by making the sponges, which took some time. I made the mixture and divided it into six equal parts, that I made into different colours using food colouring. These had to be baked one at a time, since the oven could only fit one tin. When baked and cooled they were wrapped in plastic to wait for the next day.
On day two I made a lime frosting to go between the layers and a vanilla flavoured butter cream to cover the cake with. I cut two rectangles from each sponge and assembled them into two longish cakes with the lime frosting between each layer. After that, they were both covered in butter cream.
Now to the fun part. I used marzipan that I coloured into the necessary colours. Making the striped pattern was a bit tricky, but after a bit of rolling and careful cutting I eventually was able to put it on the cakes. After that, the face, arms and legs were also made out of marzipan. I was really happy with the result, especially since this is the first time I've made a cake with so much detailing. I hope you enjoy it!
