Description
I chose Anouk because of all the detail and all the techniques I could use making her. I love the juxtaposition of a Rembrandt style painting mixed with “Dogs Playing Poker”. I started by baking my favorite chocolate cake and mixing up a whole vat of ganache. I carved the cake in two very big tiers, using a center dowel and straws for support. I ganached the outside of the cake, then covered it in a mixture of modeling chocolate and fondant. Her arms were armature wire that I covered in copious amounts of modeling chocolate. Her head is rice crispy treats covered, again, in copious amounts of modeling chocolate and then the fondant mixture.
I enjoyed the technique of using wafer paper for the Elizabethan collar and cuffs - that was a first for me. I used paper punches to cut out the lace design, then steamed the wafer paper to mold it to the proper shape. I hand painted the bodice, and made molds for the medallion and chains. I added highlights to achieve the painted look of the original art. She was a tricky pup, but I enjoyed all the craziness that went into making her. Also, she was delicious.
