RETRO CAMPING cake by Asia Smith-Bey

Description

This is my first entry ever for the contest, and I'm very excited for the opportunity! The inspiration for my cake was Retro Camping, and I wanted to see if I could execute this design using a Swiss Meringue Buttercream transfer. I've tried this technique in the past with varying degrees of success. I used a chocolate box mix, but my SMBC and chocolate buttercream icings were from scratch. I baked the cake in an 8" round 3" deep pan, and cut it to the same shape as the design. I used various colors of SMBC to create the frozen buttercream transfer, and touched up the resulting design with additional buttercream as needed. For the sides of my cake, I decided to use a technique that I saw on Pinterest to create a tree bark look from shards of chocolate and melted chocolate. My sons really liked the "wood log" look. It took me about 6 hours to complete. This cake tastes so rich that I highly recommend a tall glass of milk to enjoy with it!
