Submitter's Comments:
There are many designs to choose from that my biggest problem is narrowing down the choices.
I picked Ladies & Children First because it is an understated, but cool design, and I liked the monochromatic color scheme.
I made my favorite dark chocolate cake and made up a cardamom swiss meringue buttercream (yum). I layered the cake in two sections and covered them with a black tea dark chocolate ganache (double yum).
I did the head in one piece and then fashioned the brim of the hat out of wire and foil and used a combination of modeling chocolate and fondant to cover. I didn't think I could get a stiff enough hat brim without the wire structure.
The head and hat are covered with fondant. The cane is also made from wire and covered with modeling chocolate. I covered the board in isomalt which I colored with various blues to create the water effect and, ta-da, my poor guy was drowning.
My daughter enjoyed eating the first piece of the hat, as you can see!
