Octopus Icecream cake by Rebecca Landry

Description

I fell in love with this adorable octopus ice cream design and thought it would be easy and quick to pull off for my first Threadcakes entry. The thing is, cakes are NEVER easy and quick. I tell myself these lies all the time. This cake took me maybe 6 or 7 hours over a three day period. This also may be totally off because I'm not good at keeping track of time. It just took longer than expected. This cake could not have been done without all the awesome information I got from Avalon's chibi superhero class on Cakemade. I highly recommend buying that class if you need to learn about structures like this. I reused another board I had made for something else because I like to save money. haha I built the structure, made the very bottom of the cone out of rice crispy treats and the rest is cake, buttercream, fondant and modeling chocolate. So everything other than the structure is edible. It was harder than I thought it would be and it didn't come out as close to the original design as I'd hoped but overall I still think he's pretty darn cute. My boys were more than happy to help me eat him.
