This is my first entry to Threadcakes, and I am nervous, excited and proud all at once!

I'm a hobby baker and have been admiring Threadcakes entries for years now. It never occurred to me to actually submit an entry until I saw Threadcakes' plea for more entries this year, and that the deadline had been extended.

So here it is. I picked "Crazed Monkeys" by ilustraluna.

Baked a 5 inch chocolate cake, brushed it with kahlua and rum and layered it with chocolate cream cheese frosting and toasted almonds. (If I'm gonna eat anything, it's gotta be yummy!). Ganached the cake and covered it with red fondant.

Decorated it with a sculpted bas relief of the Crazed Monkeys, done in fondant, and hand painted it with food colouring & vodka, after placing it on the cake.

I took me about about 15 hours, spread over a few days, pockets of time after work (I work full time).

It took hours off my beauty sleep but I must admit, I truly enjoyed the process. Everything from picking a design, planning it, baking and decorating the cake to eating it!

Threadcakes, please carry on for many many more years to come. All of the entries are a source of inspiration, awe and admiration to so many of us, especially hobby bakers like me!
