Puppet In Love

Description
This threadcake is based of the design "Pupper in Love" - it was chosen for its cuteness and simplicity - as well as the fact that no one had done a cake for it yet.
The entire cake took 3 days: day one to make the fondant and buttercream icing from scratch, day two to bake the cakes and start the decorating, and day three to finish it all up.
We made a plain white cake from scratch, as well as homemade fondant and homemade buttercream icing. This was our first intense baking project like this, though we made 2 practice cakes with fondant and buttercream icing beforehand to get used to them.
It was quite an interesting process, including making four(!) different batches of fondant [the first one was dyed the wrong color, second was too dry, third one was too sticky, fourth one was jusssst right!], having to shrink our puppets when we realized they were giant next to our cake, realizing that buttercream icing from scratch doesn't spread easily and is the bane of our existence, and finally getting it right and being in shock that it was done.
Overall it was a great experience and we plan on making at least one more threadcake for this competition!
