Description
My cake was based of the shirt "Music Business Remastered." I decied to try a new recipe with this one, strawberry cake with lemon flavored icing. I took me 2 days and a total of about 14 hours.
The cake mix had a strawberry puree that gave it a nice consistency for shaping and icing! The flavor was good especially with the lemon frosting (made from scratch) I followed a recipe from a cake decorating class i took.
Once the cake and frosting where done the fun started. I tried to record as much as i could but since it was just me, after i got started with the fondant it became too much of a hassle to take pictures/video. I decided to stick with pictures only, using my tripod and self timer.
I haven't used fondant a lot on my cakes, so this was a learning process for me. After seeing the shirt, an image of a 3D turntable cake came to mind and i started sketching it out! I decided to use frosting ONLY on the bottom layer. I figured it didn't need any details and fondant doesn't taste very good to me. BUT, if i had to change anything on this cake it would be use fondant on the bottom layer as well to give it a more unified look. The rest of the cake was covered in icing and fondant. The most time consuming part of this cake was coloring the icing and rolling it out. The most difficult part was the hand, but i had a lot of fun making that part.
Cutting the cake has always been hard for me. I think this is the first cake i make that i had to cut myself. It was hard, but totally worth it. Overall, I was very happy with the way it turned out and i would do it over again! Thank you for having this awesome contest!
