Old Man and the Sea

I fell in love with the swirlies on this t-shirt, so I thought...why not make a bazillion swirlies with some royal icing? Then I used a food pen to add on the black outlines after they dried good. I made the boat and fish people out of gumpaste. The cake is lemon, mmmmm, to match the yellow rain slickers. I used a lemony butter cream frosting to fix the swirlies all around and voila! You have a crazy swirly cake. ;) I broke a lot of swirlies because I have a less than gentle hand when it comes to cake. I am the biggest clutz...shattered swirls, a yellow stained arm, and frosting in my hair - just another day in my messy life. All in all a fun cake to do! I am going to take off the lil boat and spray the swirls blue and add a lil scuba girl figure into the water for my friend's upcoming birthday in a couple of days - then we will eat the cake. :)
