Nice Boobies cake by Stephanie Detorie

Description

Ever since I've known about Threadless I've loved the shirt "Nice Boobies" so it was obvious that I would do that for this contest.

At first the cake was going to be much larger; however, the bottom collapsed so being limited on time, I gave up and decided a cute mini-cake would do.

For awhile I wasn't really sure what the cake was going to look like, so I drew a few sketches and fell in love with blue and brown stripes at the bottom with a yellow/orange top. I would've loved to do everything home-made but again, I was on a time limit and a budget so I made do with store bought cake mix, icing, and fondant.

I did a mix of yellow and chocolate layers (my sister insisted on yellow cake and since I was using her house to make this, I figured I should at least five her that much) and vanilla icing. I cut the cake layers a bit smaller and staked three cakes on top of each other. I then cut the top of the cut to give it a slant to make things a bit more interesting and covered the rest of it in icing. The next day I colored the fondant and rolled it out. Even though the labels on the colors were exactly what I needed they didn't turn out how they should've so it took quite awhile to get the colors right, even a trip to the store to buy more food coloring. I wrapped the blue fondant around the cake in fear I wouldn't have enough and added vertical brown striped. Then I put the yellow/orange color on the top and cut it uneven on the edges to make it more fun. I used the leftover cake scraps and icing to make the "boobies" and froze them. Then i covered them in fondant. I used toothpicks in their beaks and wooden dowels for their legs.

Although this was definitely a challenge (I've only made one other cake like this before) it was a lot of fun, and very delicious.
