Description
I created this "cool" globe being "warmed" by a cozy scarf with a store bought pound cake. (The scraps were a great snack after working 4.5 hours.)
I baked the cake in this cute pan set I found. After cooling for about 10 minutes, I took each half out, trimmed each side flat, and cooled for an additional hour on a rack.
To assemble the globe shape, I simply used a store bought icing to glue the halves together, then iced the entire shape to prepare it for a layer of fondant.
I used a layer of white fondant, then a layer of hand-colored blue fondant. When you cut into the cake, you see layers that resemble the earth's layers (crust, mantle...and so on.)
I hand-colored the rest of my fondant supply with black, green, pink, and yellow gel paste food coloring. I proceeded to create the very basic continent shapes, sunglasses, mouth, and scarf. Rolled out on wax paper, then hand-cut with a sharp knife.
Last step...assemble everything, cut into slices, and enjoy!
