Description
I chose this design partially because I made a similar beach/beach ball cake in the past that turned out pretty cute.
We started with box mix because it was easier and supposedly more reliable...well we were WRONG. But we soldiered on anyway. We used buttercream, spice, and pound cake mixtures. Frosting is homemade buttercream & cream cheese icing. Figurines are made of royal icing w/ cocoa powder, and sand is made from turbinado sugar. We chose to use different colors on our cake version of the beach ball because red and blue are less appetizing, and much more difficult to achieve.
There's no need to brag about all the turmoil the cake went through. The whole process took six days, but with large breaks in this time. So who knows how much time was actually devoted to the dessert. Fortunately, it turned out pretty great, and it was quite tasty.
