My career as a psychic ended due to unforeseen circumstances cake by Dawn Atwood

Description

When I saw this design I just knew I had to make a "magic 8 ball" cake, and heck I already had a ball pan...

I started with a Duncan Hines mix and used less oil to make a more pound-cake like consistency. I colored my fondant (which BTW didn't take nearly as much black coloring as I thought it would - and all that running around town with my 40% off craft store coupons to get multiple jars - oh well). I formed the blue triangle and bubbles out of blue fondant. It was tough to determine which size I needed to make the triangle so it would be in proportion to the cake, but then I thought "I need it at least big enough to write on it" - so I guessed.

Writing the phrase on the fondant was a little more challenging. My #1 tip was too big, and wouldn’t you know, my local cake decorating supply store was closed for vacation last week. Where to get a smaller tip?!?! So I put the baked cakes in the freezer, wrapped my fondant, put the royal icing in an air-tight container and waited for them to re-open earlier this week. Glad I waited – they had about 6 different tips smaller than a #1. With that crisis over, I wrote the phrase with my brand new #1L tip and let it dry overnight. I filled and frosted the cake with butter cream icing, rolled and covered it in black fondant and put on the finishing touches.

I brought it into the office to share and everyone loved it!
