Description
When I first found out about this contest, I immediately thought of this design for some reason-I could just picture the poor little unicorn drowning in a sea of fondant...
I had to spread the design/execution out over a few evenings, as I work everyday. I sculpted the ark, mini iceberg, boats & animals out of fondant over 2 nights-all edible, other than 2 toothpicks-one for each giraffe's neck. I then baked 2 cakes (one vanilla w/ vanilla caramel buttercream the other chocolate w/ chocolate buttercream) using box mix-again due to time constraints.
The bottom tier (the ocean) was covered in light blue fondant which was accented by darker blue fondant waves. The top tier (the iceberg) was left as just buttercream to keep the rough texture of the ice & because I quickly learned that 91% humidity + fondant=big gooey mess (I also blame humidity for my fondant structures settling & cracking).
I knew there was no way that I could finish off two tiers of cake on my own, so it was sent with my boyfriend to work. I was assured that all who ate it thought that it was both hilarious & delicious.
