It took me about 2 weeks to finally decide on a design to do!!! Every time I choose one, I wake up the next morning finding myself browsing the shirts for a NEW theme to do! When I finally chose the design I liked, it took me two days to finish the cake!
I baked two homemade-from-scratch chocolate cakes in two loaf pans. Both were layered once and filled with homemade-from-scratch vanilla butter cream. I also make my own fondant and color it myself. This was day one of the project, making the cakes, butter cream, and fondant.
On day two, I had to create my shoe outline out of fondant! It took lots of imagination to draw a template of the shoe parts. I had to cut the paper and create a paper shoe just to get a feel of how it will look and how the shoe parts meet in different areas. I finally had a good template that I traced on to the fondant and cut out. I also had to do the laces and tongue.
I started layering the cakes and carving them into a shoe shape. It wasn't as easy as it seemed! When the shoe looked good, I started applying the fondant.
Assembling the shoe was a bit difficult at first so I allowed the fondant to dry for a few minutes first.
When it was manageable, I assembled it! It took many tries to finally get the fondant aligned with different pieces but it worked out alright. The laces were especially tricky!
I then outlined some areas with butter cream and placed the string over the shoe.
My kids loved eating it as much as I enjoyed making it! It was gone in minutes! ...
