Description
A couple of my friends and I decided one day that it would be awesome to make a cake sometime. Not just any cake, but a legit one, one like you see made on Ace of Cakes. I was searching the Charm City Cakes website, when I happened to find a link to this Threadcakes contest, and so we searched the designs, and got to work.
After buying a few box mixes for a chocolate cake, we baked a couple of sheet cakes and started on the toaster. We layered and carved the toaster, and, after much kneading of the fondant, we rolled the fondant on top. Then we moved on to the bread, layered and carved it and added the fondant. Next we mixed the icing with the food color dyes and piped the faces on to the cakes.
We had melted some chocolate chips and let them cool in some mini muffin tins to use for the toaster legs. For the last of the final touches we rolled some fondant for the cords and for the handle. Overall, the cake took between 6 and 7 hours, and we were finished after midnight. But we weren't completely finished with the cake until we sliced it up and took a few rewarding bites!
