Living Doll cake by Mary Igoe

Description

This cake is so appropriate for how the baking process went. Nearly everything that went wrong, could go wrong. It is ironic that the end product is someone stealing it!

My estimated time for this cake was 3 days, but it ended up two weeks. D= It was a grueling 2 weeks of running out of ingredients, misplacing things I had, fondant not sticking to cake, forgetting things at the store, to hurting my arm in a car crash so I couldn't decorate. These two weeks sucked, but I am so proud that I was able to finish it by the deadline, even if it isn't up to par with the competition.

I originally picked this design because it reminded me of my friends after I baked a cake. I was so excited because this would give me a chance to try out a lot of things I hadn't done before. The cake is composed of 6 layers of chocolate and fudge covered with buttercream. This wasn't the original plan. This was suppose to be my first experience with fondant but I have discover that covering a tall angled cake is SUPER hard. I have no idea how you do it. After a lot of failed attempts at covering this huge cake in fondant I ended up just using blue buttercream and smoothing it. This was also my first time doing an elegant(ish) piped cake. I smoothed it all off with a wet paintbrush to make my lines neat.

I then made hands out of rice krispie treats. I carved out fingers and then dipped them in green chocolate (the only one I had), and then flesh colored chocolate which I quickly smoothed and attempted to make finger likeish. The fingernails are a thinned icing glaze.

The topper is white chocolate with a pearl glaze.

I think that's everything. =)

Thanks for reading my entry! Have a great day~
